Sea Lion

Suited for Water: Found worldwide in mostly temperate and polar seas, the sea lion is built for the water, but, unlike the seal, it is also mobile on land. Streamlined bodies, strong flippers and an ability to regulate body temperature make the sea lion suited to its watery environment.

The Breeding Season
: Most sea lion species congregate in large crowds on beaches during breeding season. Males defend their territory vigorously. Females join the males a few weeks after the territories have been established. The female has been at sea and pregnant for the last eight to 15 months. Once on land she will give birth, and soon after the pup is born, mate with the male in whose territory she has settled. Then it's off to sea again until the next breeding season.
